MKUltra Subproject 100 funded investigations into soil microorganisms and methods to obtain information from soil samples. The project began December 1, 1959 and was approved to run through November 30, 1961. For the fiscal year shown, the budget was $30,000. The surviving paperwork shows a continuing project with preliminary phases completed and data providing base information for soil analysis. Test line extensions and enlarged test lines are being evaluated. The purpose included linking detection of chemical and biological warfare activities in soil. The cost for one year was $49,201.40, including a $1,892.40 service charge, with expenses charged to cost center 4125-1390-3902. An unidentified university served as the research institution, with principal investigator name redacted. Funding came under Project MKUltra authority granted April 18, 1953, from the DCI to the DDA.
