The surviving paperwork shows financial records and a research proposal. The project received cash payments in four installments: $1,000 on November 10, 1961, $1,000 on December 1961, $1,000 on February 2, 1962, and $1,000 on April 20, 1962, plus an initial balance of $170.22. Disbursements totaled $1,350.31 for general supplies and services, travel, special services and honorariums, and equipment. A July 1961 proposal describes isolating organisms from various animals including humans by nasal swab. The research focused on Staphylococcus aureus strains as causative agents of infection and food poisoning in humans. The study planned to examine how these strains adapt in different animal species and included in vitro and in vivo characterization tests. The grant was later extended through December 31, 1962. Names of the researcher and institution are redacted in the surviving documents.
