MKUltra Subproject 49

MKUltra Subproject 49 was a research project funded by the CIA with administrative and financial records from 1955 to 1957. The surviving paperwork shows that the subproject received additional authorization of $24,000 in February 1956 to cover expenses during that fiscal year. The project involved work at a university Department of Psychology and included salaries, supplies, and equipment purchases. A financial statement for the period March 1957 through May 1957 shows a beginning balance of $2,246.29, grant receipts of $6,077.54, expenditures totaling $5,098.96 for salaries ($4,574.93), supplies ($60.49), equipment ($4,635.42), and overhead, leaving an unexpended balance of $3,224.87. A certification document indicates that subprojects 49 and 59 were completed and unused funds were returned, with the amounts to be credited to related subprojects under allotment 6-2502-10-001.
