MKUltra Subproject 72 was completed and returned unused funds. The surviving paperwork shows financial records from 1957 to 1958. A memorandum dated November 2, 1960 describes checks issued to an unnamed recipient totaling $41,382.00, with individual checks ranging from $250 to $1,952.50 dated between August 1957 and July 1958. A financial statement for July 1, 1957 to August 31, 1958 shows total funds received of $30,210.00, with expenditures of $30,638.04 including salaries ($7,234.27), equipment ($5,070.94), travel ($2,740.97), supplies ($2,821.99), animal houses ($1,465.17), laboratory facilities ($7,120.50), honorarium ($75.00), and overhead ($3,710.00), resulting in a deficit of $28.84. A memorandum of agreement describes a non-profit corporation acting as financial agent for research grants with a special bank account and conditions for fund disbursement and handling.
