MKUltra Subproject 31

Subproject 31 of Project MKUltra funded the procurement of a rare organic chemical not commercially available for use in approved TSS/CD (Technical Services/Chemical Division) research projects. Surviving records from 1954 and 1955 show two invoices totaling $1,233.20 for 1060 grams of material purchased at $220 per kilogram, with an additional authorization of $53.60 for a second kilogram. Total project costs were not expected to exceed $1,593.20. Records show financial approvals and check receipts dated between January and July 1955, with distribution to CIA offices and the TSS/Chemical Division. The material was described as necessary for approved technical projects, though specific research purposes are not detailed in surviving paperwork.
