Summary

On August 9, 1955, in Saginaw, Michigan, a civilian witness reported a rectangular object with a white center and red and green sides. The object made no sound and appeared in the night sky. It was first sighted around 11 p.m. at an altitude of 290 degrees azimuth and 15 degrees elevation. The object remained stationary but moved slightly north over two hours, setting at 305 degrees azimuth before disappearing. The witness reported having seen this object before, always appearing after 11 p.m. An assistant operations officer checked the possibility of a weather balloon, with negative results. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as an astronomical object, specifically the star Arcturus.
