Summary

On September 30, 1955, near Cedar City, Utah, four civilians reported an object. The sighting lasted about two hours. The Air Force time stamp was 1800Z.

The witnesses described one square, silver object about the size of a grapefruit held at arm's length, seen without optical aids. The object stayed stationary. Two of the observers claimed to have held a mental conversation with the object, which they said claimed to be from Jupiter and said it would return in two weeks.

The Air Force concluded the object was a probable balloon. Records showed an upper-air balloon (number 81W) was over the area at the time of the sighting.

The file also includes unrelated information-only items, including a newspaper letter from late 1955 about a photograph of an object near Edwardsville, New York, and a list of October 1955 sightings with their Air Force evaluations.
