RANDOLPH AFB TEX, [ILLEGIBLE] - Incident Number: [ILLEGIBLE]Date unknown
Summary
# Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, July 17, 1952
On the night of July 17, 1952, at 10:20 p.m., an experienced military observer at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas reported seeing a bright bluish-white light moving rapidly across the sky. The witness was a Warrant Officer with more than 1,200 flying hours to his credit. A Major also present at the scene confirmed the sighting completely. The light appeared circular in shape with an irregular outer edge and traveled from south to north directly overhead. The entire sighting lasted about three seconds.
The observer noted that the light moved at tremendous speed but left no trail or exhaust. He ruled out a falling meteor because of the object's color, its instantaneous disappearance (like flipping a switch), and the method of its motion. Weather conditions at the time were clear with fifteen miles of visibility. The wind was light and easterly. An investigation found no meteorological or other natural conditions that could explain the sighting. No physical evidence such as photographs or fragments existed. No aircraft were reported in the area, though three B-29 bombers from the base were airborne in the local region.
The officer who interrogated the witness found him sincere and straightforward. The witness noted that the object could not have been the base's rotating beacon, which was positioned 120 degrees away from where the light appeared. The case file does not state a final Air Force evaluation.
