Summary

On August 4, 1955, near 8:15 p.m. local time, a civilian ground observer in McDonald, Pennsylvania reported one saucer-shaped object. The Air Force recorded the report under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The object was described as saucer-shaped and fat in the middle. It was red, orange, and yellow. It moved slowly north on a 45 degree incline, then faded from view. The sighting lasted about four minutes. Weather included light showers with an overcast sky.

The Air Force noted the object moved against the wind and that local civilian air traffic was in the area. Officials said the duration and the fading supported an aircraft explanation and marked the case as possibly aircraft.
