Project Blue Book Case File
Ginger Hill, PennsylvaniaJune 1949
Summary
On the morning of June 4, 1949, a man driving on Old Brownsville Road near Ginger Hill, Pennsylvania saw something unusual in the sky. The object was oval in shape and very thin, like a disc seen edge-on. It flew parallel to the road at about twice the speed of a regular airplane, staying in view for roughly thirty seconds before trees blocked his sight line. The witness described it as highly polished, similar to aluminum, with no sound, exhaust, lights, or visible moving parts.
The observer was the chief engineer for a coal company and had worked in engineering and drafting for thirty-eight years. He told investigators that the object's thickness was about ten percent of its width, and its diameter matched the wingspan of a two-engine plane. His brother was riding in the car with him at the time but did not see the object. The witness estimated the object was flying at an altitude of approximately four thousand feet, about a mile and a half away.
Air Force investigators checked local airports and found no aircraft in the area at that time. The weather bureau reported a ceiling of twenty-five hundred feet with three to six miles of visibility. No weather balloons had been released that morning. The witness's employer confirmed he was reliable and well-educated. Investigators also checked with local police and found no concerns about the witness's character or credibility. Despite these inquiries, the case file does not state a final conclusion about what the object was. This case file contains eight pages as preserved by the National Archives.
