Summary

On January 29, 1956, a civilian in Pittsfield, Maine reported seeing a round object about 10 times larger than the brightest star. The object was blue with a white center and a red outer edge that appeared ragged. It moved erratically up and down and to the right and left, then disappeared slowly toward the west. The witness observed the object for half an hour using binoculars. There was no sound or contrails. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as probably the planet Venus.
