Summary

On May 2, 1955, a pilot of an Air Force T-33 aircraft reported a sighting near Limestone, Maine. While flying between Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts and Harmon Air Force Base in Newfoundland, the pilot observed a large round mass with flashing white and blue lights. The object was located 1 to 2 degrees to the right of his aircraft and 2 degrees above the horizon. The pilot estimated the object to be 15 miles away at his 12 o'clock position. The sighting lasted from 8:30 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. local time. The object appeared to be reflecting light and resembled burning gases. The pilot stated it was not the sun or another aircraft and failed to gain on it during the observation. The Air Force concluded the sighting was unidentified.
