Fort Monmouth, N. J., July 1952 - Incident Number: [ILLEGIBLE]July 1952

Insufficient Data

Summary

On July 10, 1952, a very bright object was spotted from the ground near Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The sighting lasted 15 to 20 minutes and occurred in daylight conditions during a clear evening. The observer initially saw what resembled a bright red star, which made large sweeping circles across nearly a full 360 degrees of the horizon, appearing to glow brighter than the actual stars visible at the time.

The report notes that an Air Force F-86 jet from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina was operating in the vicinity of Florence, South Carolina, at the same time. The aircraft was flying at 23,000 feet in tight circles, though the pilot reported seeing no unidentified object during the operation. Weather conditions in the area were reported as favorable for observation, with thin overcast at 25,000 feet and visibility of 12 miles. No interception was attempted, and no physical evidence of the sighting was recovered.

The investigating officer noted that the observer was not contacted by the organization responsible for the investigation. It is also unclear whether the sighting was ever reported to the intelligence officer at Shaw Air Force Base. Due to incomplete contact with the observer and the absence of corroborating witnesses or physical evidence, the reliability of this report remains uncertain.
