Summary

On January 31 through February 8, 1955, a civilian reported observing a bright blue-white star-like object near Pittsfield and Detroit, Maine. The object appeared about the size of a four-foot circular saw with sharply outlined edges. It was visible for 30 minutes, changed course from west to north, and moved in a half circle while rising and lowering several times. The object then faded away toward the horizon at sunrise after one hour and 15 minutes of observation. It did not explode, break apart, or emit smoke or exhaust, though it flickered at times. The object was observed from the ground during daylight hours. The Air Force investigation concluded that these sightings were caused by the planet Venus.
