Summary

On July 6, 1961, near Reno, Nevada, a civilian observer reported three round objects that were white in color and not in formation. The objects were sighted at 11:30 a.m. PDT and remained in the same area for approximately two hours. Two of the three objects then departed in a southwest to northeast direction. The third object remained in the area. A civilian observer reported the objects at 38 degrees 55 minutes north, 119 degrees 57 minutes west. The report was telephoned to Reno Civil Defense. No sound or other unusual features were noted. The Air Force investigation found that the San Francisco area had target aircraft and intercepters in the same time period and believed the UFO sighting may have been these aircraft. Weather conditions were clear.
