Summary
On May 21, 1961, near Okinawa, an aircraft crew observed an object in the night sky. The crew sighted what appeared to be a satellite at 9:22 p.m. The object was traveling northwest to southeast at 43 degrees elevation from the aircraft. The object was visible for 12 minutes and had a brightness comparable to a first magnitude star. The observation was made in good weather conditions at 7,800 feet altitude.
