Summary

On July 1, 1961, an unidentified flying object was reported near Fernandina Beach, Florida. A witness observed a red, very bright object moving from north to south at a slow speed. The object appeared to be approximately 40,000 feet or higher in altitude. The witness watched the object through binoculars for about one hour and reported it was still visible at the time of the report. The Air Force evaluation was unidentified.
