Insufficient Data

Summary

On September 1, 1953, at Pepperrell Air Force Base in Newfoundland, personnel sighted an unidentified aircraft visually and on radar at 10:25 a.m. A green flare was observed dropping from an unidentified aircraft at Torbay Airport. A meteor was seen simultaneously at Argentina by Ground Control Intercept personnel west of their station. An F-9 fighter aircraft was sighted overhead at the same time. A C-47 with the call sign 139K was also in the area. A flight plan check showed a possible correlation. The dropped green flare proceeded north 12 miles, then returned heading south and faded on radar at 15 miles. The Air Force concluded the object was probably a meteor seen simultaneously at Argentina, though the initial assumption treated it as a green flare from an unidentified aircraft.
