Summary

On May 16, 1953, about 1810 (6:10 p.m.) Pacific time, civilians at the Naval Air Facility in Inyokern, California, saw flying objects. The report came from a base employee.

The witness reported three cream-colored objects overhead. They climbed rapidly and disappeared to the northeast. Their height over Inyokern was estimated at about 20,000 to 25,000 feet. The objects looked round and balloon-like with strings hanging down. Several other civilians at the station also saw them.

No photographs were taken, and no method of propulsion could be seen. No interception was attempted. Winds aloft were from the northwest. The description fit three upper air research balloons tied together. The Air Force listed the case as a balloon.
