Summary

On May 11, 1961, at 8:05 p.m. near the Med Sea at coordinates 3742N 0042E, military observers sighted a very bright fast-moving object. The object had the intensity of the star Sirius. It was measured at an altitude of 59 degrees 49 minutes 15 seconds and moved west to east on a true bearing of 202 degrees before moving out of sight to the east. The observation lasted 49 minutes 15 seconds. The Air Force concluded that the object sighted was either a satellite, meteor, or aircraft, noting that information reported was very limited in nature and precluded a definitive conclusion as to the nature of the object.
