Summary

On July 13, 1954, in Newburgh, New York, a civilian reported seeing an unusual object. The witness, a 35-year-old male librarian attending a concert with his wife, observed a bright object moving slowly across a clear sky while the sun was setting. The object resembled a fluorescent lamp and was shaped like a cigar. It traveled in a straight line from northwest to southeast. The sighting lasted about three minutes. The object moved slowly and appeared very high in the sky, compared to the speed of a reconnaissance aircraft. The Air Force noted that the information presented conflicts with analysis and classified the sighting as unknown.
