Summary
On July 28, 1949, at about 2131 (9:31 p.m.), a civilian near Tallman, New York, reported seeing objects. The report was sent by an Army message and recorded on an incident form. The Air Force conclusion was "insufficient data for evaluation." The report became part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witness described a silver-blue object, circular in shape and tapering to a tail like a comet. He estimated its altitude at about 1,000 feet. It moved from northwest to southeast. He then saw two more of the same objects at about five-minute intervals, for three objects in total.
The witness also noticed a searchlight playing in the sky that seemed to be trying to follow the objects. The weather was reported as high overcast with no visibility restrictions.
