# Summary

On September 25, 1961, military observers on Guam saw two separate bright objects streak across the sky in rapid succession. Both sightings lasted only a few seconds and shared similar features: each object appeared as a cylindrical mass of orange-colored flame, with no visible solid body underneath. The first sighting occurred around 10:45 a.m. local time, when a sergeant at Andersen Air Force Base happened to look up and spotted the object crossing the northern sky from east to west before disappearing behind cloud cover. About five minutes later, a pilot flying a KC-97 transport plane near Saipan, about 25 miles north of Anatahan Island, saw a second similar object moving rapidly across the sky. That object also faded out quickly, traveling in a straight line without maneuvering.

An Air Force intelligence officer who interviewed the first observer noted that the witness was adamant the sighting was not a meteor or falling star, and suggested it might have been the re-entry of a space vehicle. The weather conditions were favorable for observation: clear skies with high thin clouds, moonlight, and good visibility. The file notes that both sightings had characteristics typical of meteor observations. However, the Air Force's official evaluation is not clearly stated in the available portions of this case file.
