Summary

On December 13, 1955, a B-47 crew detected an object on radar over Caddo Lake, Louisiana. The Greenwich time was 0245Z on December 14. The sighting was at night, and the observer was military.

The object showed as one oblong radar return, about the size of a normal aircraft. It first appeared at about 7,000 feet, then seemed to drift toward the northeast and pass beneath the observing aircraft. The crew tracked it for about five minutes until it passed out of radar range.

A radar observer aboard the aircraft was the main witness. Winds at 6,000 feet were from about 250 degrees, and the report noted the object was drifting in a northeasterly direction.

The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The record card noted this was a possible balloon sighting drifting with the wind.
