MKUltra Subproject 74

The CIA awarded a $1,500 grant under MKUltra Subproject 74 to an unnamed researcher (name redacted) for one year beginning May 1, 1958. The grant funded work on a treatise involving research assistance, typing, photostatting, bibliographic work, and translation of material. The surviving paperwork shows a 'Report on Grant' detailing how the money was distributed to several researchers with Ph.D.s for specific tasks including locating and copying excerpts (estimated 5,700 items), filling gaps in files, and photostatting relevant materials. The grant was handled as a cover grant through TSS/Chemical Division. A memo dated April 21, 1958 indicates the financial participation would provide background information on topics of interest to the Agency in various areas of the world and authenticate a cover. No equipment purchases were involved.
