Summary

MKUltra Subproject 57 was a research project that ran from at least 1956 through May 1957. The surviving paperwork shows financial and administrative records. The project received funding and held all research funds in a special bank account. The project was terminated prior to its expected expiration date. A final accounting was completed as of May 31, 1957. Multiple memos and receipts document the return of unused funds to Finance, including checks totaling $52.77, $32.77, and $.05. One memo from June 4, 1957 notes the assignment of an IBM electric typewriter (No. 151957), reclaimed from Subproject 57, to MKULTRA Subproject 10. A certification memo from October 22, 1959 states the program was satisfactorily completed and requests credit of $59,024.11 from subproject 83 invoice 1 to subproject 57, representing return of unused funds originally charged to Allotment 6-2502-10-001.
