Summary

On January 16, 1957, in South Laguna, California, a civilian observer reported seeing two or three objects in the sky around 5:13 p.m. The objects appeared suddenly, brightened, dimmed, and disappeared over a period of one to two minutes. They were viewed visually and through binoculars very low on the horizon in a west-southwest direction. According to comments on the record, the sighting was concurrent with a naval aircraft practicing night landing exercises on aircraft carriers in the area. The Air Force evaluation was unknown.
