Summary

On December 8, 1957, a civilian observer in Comfort, Texas reported seeing twelve round objects about the size of a pinhead with bright lights. The objects stood still and remained visible for ten minutes. The observer initially thought they were stars. Ground observation was conducted around 8:35 a.m. local time. The Civil Air Patrol was contacted. Officials determined the sightings were probably parachutes from weather balloons in the area because they appeared to stand still due to great distance from the observer. A helicopter from Kerrville, Texas had recovered weather instruments from a balloon to the east of Kerrville around the same time. No unusual radar sightings were detected. The Air Force evaluation was inconclusive.
