Summary

On January 8, 1956, at 1:12 a.m., a civilian near Roseburg, Oregon, five miles southwest of the city, observed a round white object with a small amount of sparks for two to three seconds. The object moved south with a sloping nose down trajectory. The witness was looking out a window at 45 degrees azimuth when the object appeared at the same azimuth and descended behind a hill without reappearing on the other side. Weather was clear and cold with 6,000 to 200 feet visibility and 25-knot winds. No high-altitude aircraft were operating in the area at the time. The Air Force investigation concluded the sighting was consistent with a meteor.
