Project Blue Book Case File
Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaAugust 1957
Summary
On the night of August 22, 1957, two very bright objects appeared in the sky over Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The sighting lasted only a few seconds. The objects were close together, and observers described them as extremely bright, but no other details about their appearance were recorded.
The Air Force investigation found insufficient data to reach a conclusion about what the objects were. The case file includes witness questionnaires and weather data collected from the area at the time of the sighting, but the OCR text is difficult to read clearly in many sections, and specific details about the witnesses' accounts are hard to extract with confidence.
The file also contains material related to a separate sighting in Dayton, Ohio, on the same date. In that case, observers reported seeing two objects the size of a dime with a yellow color, which the Air Force concluded were the planets Venus and Jupiter.
The full case file, comprising 24 scanned pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
