Raimer, Ala., February 1953February 1953
Summary
On February 16, 1953, at about 1630 (4:30 p.m.) local time, two civilian men reported an unidentified object near Raimer, Alabama. They were watching an Air Force B-47 bomber when their attention was drawn to a silent, metallic object flying below the bomber.
The object looked round from one angle and looked like it had swept back or delta wings from another angle. It left no vapor trail and showed no sign of propulsion. The men said it climbed, dived, made sharp turns, and reversed course. They estimated it moved faster than the B-47. The total sighting lasted about 20 minutes. The object left the area on a 350 degree course.
The Air Force checked records and found a B-47 from MacDill Air Force Base in the area at 35,000 feet. Scattered clouds were at 20,000 feet. Officials concluded the men, who were inexperienced observers, probably saw a jet fighter, possibly an F-86, maneuvering below the B-47. The card lists the conclusion as possibly aircraft (one page notes balloon, but the analysis points to aircraft).
