Summary

On February 12, 1953, at about 0600 (6:00 a.m.) Central time, an unidentified object was seen over Lake Charles Air Force Base in Louisiana. The witnesses were Air Force crew members getting a B-47 bomber ready for flight. One report says ten crew members saw it, another says six.

The object was bluish white and delta or disc shaped. They estimated it was about 15 feet across. It left a trail that pulsed like a jet, with the pulses smaller than the object. Observers compared it to a flaming rag thrown into the air. It made no sound. It flew in a straight, level path and then suddenly disappeared about 20 miles away. The sighting lasted about 12 seconds.

The sky was clear. There were no photos or physical evidence. The Air Force listed the cause as probably astronomical, most likely a meteor or fireball with unusual coloring.
