Insufficient Data

Summary

On May 26, 1956, near Murmansk in the USSR, a round, disc-like object was observed at 1000 meters altitude by seammen from the Norwegian press. The object remained still briefly, then accelerated and disappeared into the sky. The sighting lasted 15 minutes. WX stations at Spitzbergen, Norway and Bear Island send up weather balloons and radiosondes periodically. Investigators suggested the observed object may have been one of these balloons rising against a white background and mistaken for a disc. However, the Air Force concluded there was insufficient data for conclusive evaluation.

11. COMMENTS
WX stations are located at Spitzbergen (Norway) and Bear Island which send up balloons and radiosondes periodically. Possible that these, rising out of the white background, were mistaken for "discs". However, insufficient data for conclusive evaluation.
