Summary

On August 11, 1958, at dusk near 15 miles west of Montauk, New York, a bright silver object shaped like a star was sighted. The object was spinning and disappeared instantaneously to the north. Children were watching when it vanished. The sighting lasted about 10 minutes through binoculars. One object was observed moving from south to north. Weather was clear with no clouds. The Air Force noted that several ground observers mentioned the object was an airplane, suggesting aircraft in the area as a possible cause.
