Summary

On August 4, 1954, a civilian in Washington, D.C. reported observing an object from 12:10 a.m. to 1:40 a.m. EST. The object appeared star-like and small with no marked movement or maneuvers, though it bobbed occasionally. It resembled an evening star and was bluish in color. The object moved from south to northwest at 30 degrees elevation. As it disappeared, it turned gold in color. The observation lasted one and one-half hours. Mars was setting at the time of disappearance in the position of the reported object. The Air Force evaluation was unknown.
