Summary

On July 30, 1954, two civilian test pilots flying a B-25 about 15 miles southeast of Los Angeles, California, sighted a strange object. Both pilots saw it at the same time at about 11:15 a.m. The object looked like a pencil thin line lying flat in relation to the earth. It appeared solid and made of metal or a similar material.

The object seemed to stay in a stationary position. The aircraft climbed to about 11,000 feet and made turns to get a better view, but the object did not disappear. It appeared to be at about 30,000 feet. A Navy aircraft seemed to pass underneath without seeing it.

One pilot was a National Guard jet pilot and felt the sighting was important enough to try a jet intercept, but radio contact failed. The Air Force record card listed this case as unidentified.
