Summary
On May 22, 1952, in the area southeast of Alexandria, Virginia, a civilian reported an unidentified object. The sighting was made between about 0500Z and 0620Z. The observation was made with the naked eye.
The witness described an oval shaped, reddish glow moving very rapidly on a very erratic course. The altitude was roughly estimated at 5,000 feet, and the speed could not be estimated. The weather was clear with visibility more than 45 miles.
The Air Force checked with Bolling and Andrews Air Force Bases, Washington radar, air traffic control, fighter intercept, and National Airport, all of which gave negative reports. Airliners that passed through the area reported no unusual sightings. On the Air Force record card, the case was marked Insufficient Data for Evaluation.
