Summary
# Hamilton Air Force Base, California - July 1952
A civilian employee at Hamilton Air Force Base near San Francisco spotted an unusual object on July 24, 1952. The witness was standing near the base dental clinic when she saw a thin, round object colored a reddish hue. It appeared larger than a B-25 aircraft that was in the area at the same time. The object hovered motionless for about 45 seconds, then suddenly traveled at high speed and vanished toward the southeast. The sighting lasted approximately one minute.
The witness was positioned near the base dental clinic, which sits about seven miles south of Hamilton Air Force Base. Weather conditions at the time were clear with 18 to 15 miles of visibility. The wind was light. The object was estimated to be at an altitude of 7,480 feet. A probable B-29 bomber was observed west of the object, flying roughly 100 feet below it and heading north.
The Air Force investigated the sighting and considered whether it might have been caused by window, a radar countermeasure consisting of metal strips dropped by aircraft during an exercise called Sighpost. No final conclusion appears in this portion of the case file.
