Summary

On June 27, 1962, around 9:30 a.m., a civilian observer driving north on Route 3 near Ohio Turnpike, southwest of Cleveland, Ohio, sighted an unidentified flying object. The object moved across the observer's path at an estimated altitude of 2,500 to 3,000 feet and distance of 3,000 to 4,000 feet. The observer watched it for five to seven seconds as it followed a straight, level course with no sound, exhaust smoke, or contrail. The object appeared ellipsoid in shape with a reflective metallic surface and a narrow spectrum-like aura around it. The most striking feature was the rapid diminishing of size over a short duration, indicating extreme speed. The Air Force investigation noted the observer was a field engineer qualified in aircraft observation and that no aircraft was observed within one quarter the object's speed.
