Waynesville, OhioNovember 1957
Summary
On November 9, 1957, at 1505 (3:05 p.m.), a person in Waynesville, Ohio saw a bright white object in the sky. The object was round and about the size of a baseball. It looked like a bright star. The witness watched it for about 20 to 25 minutes as it moved toward the southwest.
The witness thought the object might be a satellite. However, the Air Force found the report difficult to evaluate. The information provided was poor, contradictory in places, and had insufficient detail for a firm conclusion.
The Air Force investigated the sighting but ultimately could not determine what the object was. In its official assessment, the case was marked as "unidentified," meaning the Air Force could not rule out any single explanation. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising 8 pages of microfilm.
