Summary

On December 4, 1956, a civilian saw one object over Ridgewood, New York. The witness was a teacher and stood near City College in New York. The object was seen for about one half to five seconds.

The report described a snowball to disk shaped, pearly white object the size of a medium orange at arm's length. It was noted falling from the vapor trails of a jet aircraft that was being intercepted by fighter aircraft. The object fell straight down toward earth. The weather was clear with 15 miles of visibility.

The Air Force record card lists the cause as chaff. The card noted that chaff was dropped from a B-47 aircraft during fighter interceptor action in the area on that date. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record system for reports of unidentified flying objects.
