Summary

# Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, August 1962

In August 1962, an observer in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania reported seeing three bright objects in the sky over the course of two hours while looking through a telescope. The observer described the objects as glowing and noted they appeared in different parts of the sky, with one rising in the east, one crossing toward the west, and one in the south.

The Air Force's investigation included a review of weather and astronomical conditions for the time of the sighting. The investigator's notes indicated that several bright celestial objects were visible that night. Jupiter was rising in the east around 1900 hours (7 p.m.), Venus was setting in the west at approximately 2130 hours (9:30 p.m.), and the first-magnitude star Spica was also visible in the southern sky. The file notes that the observer's description of the objects matched the positions and brightness of these known celestial bodies, though some positional and timing details were unclear in the report.

The case file was forwarded to Air Force headquarters on August 28, 1962. The director of intelligence reviewed the report but determined that because the technical data was limited, no further analysis by the Air Force Systems Command was necessary. The Air Force's final evaluation for this case was marked as unknown.
