Summary

On December 9, 1957, a civilian in Redlands, California reported an oval object about the size of a half dollar that was bright white and stationary, then faded out. A small red light appeared nearby but the witness did not believe it was connected to the first object. The observation lasted 15 to 20 minutes. An Air Defense Command controller also observed the object, which had the same description. The Air Force concluded the bright white object was without doubt Venus. An astro chart and computer confirmed this. The red light was believed to be the red hazard light on San Antonio Peak, which was in the line of sight.
