Summary

On November 6, 1957, multiple witnesses across the northeastern United States reported an unusual aurora display featuring red glows. The sightings occurred on the night of November 6 and Thursday morning. Witnesses at locations including Belleville, Michigan; Mecca, Indiana; Emerson, Indiana; Grangeburg, New Jersey; Walden, New York; Marietta, Georgia; Durham, North Carolina; Bronx, New York; and other locations reported seeing the phenomenon for durations ranging from 1 to 30 minutes. The Air Force investigation examined these reports. The case summary notes that notables including George Todt, editorial writer and columnist for the San Fernando Valley Dispatch, and Arthur Edson, Associated Press reporter in Washington, commented on the phenomenon.
