Summary

On January 6, 1953, a civilian meteorologist saw an object in the sky near Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The time was about 11:55 a.m. The witness worked at a signal laboratory and was interviewed by an Army agent.

The object was silver colored and shaped like a football. It appeared to stay still for about three minutes. It then moved to the northwest at a slow speed before disappearing into haze at about noon. The witness watched it for about three to six minutes.

Because of his work, the witness estimated the object was over Avon, New Jersey, at an altitude of at least 30,000 feet. He said it could not have been a weather balloon because it traveled against the wind, which was coming from the northwest. He reported the weather was clear with excellent visibility.

The record notes the object disappearing into haze under clear skies sounds like a balloon observation. The card lists the conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation.
