Summary

On January 13, 1953, at about 5:50 p.m., several Army personnel saw an object in the sky near Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The witnesses were soldiers at a post hospital. They were interviewed by an Army agent the next day.

The witnesses said the object was reddish orange in color and shaped like a ball or basketball. One witness said it left a white vapor trail that could be seen for one to two minutes after the object disappeared. They said it traveled at high speed toward the north, in the direction of New York City.

The object was seen for a short time, from about one second to roughly twenty to sixty seconds, before it disappeared. One witness thought it was at about 5,000 to 8,000 feet. Another estimated about 20,000 feet. One witness noted he heard no sound from the object.

The record card lists the conclusion as probably aircraft.
