Summary
On March 22, 1950, around 1 p.m., a civilian restaurant operator near Montpelier, Vermont, reported two objects. He said he first saw an aircraft at high altitude leaving three or four vapor trails, which he thought was a B-36 type plane. He then saw two silver objects, about the size of bowling balls, that appeared to fly in formation with the aircraft. He said the objects seemed to break up cirrus clouds they passed through. They were white and on a heading of 330 degrees. No speed was given, and no photographs were made. There was no sound or exhaust trail.
The report came through a military flight service center. Officials noted that a modified B-29 aircraft was on a test flight at about 25,000 feet in that area at the time. The Air Force record (Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports) concluded the objects were probably reflections from that aircraft, since they were small and tied to the plane in the area.
