Project Blue Book Case File
Bellevue Hill, VermontApril 1952
Summary
On April 24, 1952, at 0500 EST (5 a.m.), a crew of a C-124 cargo aircraft spotted three round, bluish objects near Bellevue Hill, Vermont. The aircraft was flying at 11,000 feet while en route from Texas to Maine when the objects appeared about 20 degrees to the right of the plane's course, just above the horizon. The crew watched them for two or three minutes as the objects kept pace with their aircraft.
The objects then disappeared from sight. About five seconds later, they reappeared roughly 20 degrees to the left of the aircraft's course and remained visible for about one minute before fading rapidly away. The crew reported that the objects were round and blue in color, traveled at high speed, left no vapor trail or exhaust, and were estimated to be about 50 miles away and roughly the size of their C-124 transport plane. The weather was clear with good visibility at the time.
The sighting was reported by three crew members: a captain pilot, a captain navigator, and a staff sergeant crew member. They had delayed reporting for about 43 hours, initially providing the information to personnel in Maine, which was then relayed by restricted telephone line to Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. The Air Force later inquired whether radar stations in the area had picked up any unusual returns on that date. The 764th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at St. Albans, Vermont, reported that they had experienced jamming from 0704 to 1035 EST on April 24 but noted no other unusual or unidentified radar returns that day.
The Air Force marked the case as unidentified. The full case file, comprising 12 pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
