Project Blue Book Case File
Rutland, VermontSeptember 1959
Summary
On the afternoon of September 20, 1959, a civilian housewife on the north side of Rutland, Vermont, saw a single object for about two minutes. It was a large, round, silver object.
The object first appeared high in the sky to the east, then moved across to the west and disappeared low over the horizon, as if flying out of sight. It traveled in a generally straight path but appeared to turn or rotate in small arcs along the way. No sound, speed, or other details were given. The witness's husband also saw it but had no added information.
The sky was mostly clear. No known air traffic or interceptor aircraft were in the area. The Air Force could give no cause and, with little data on speed or altitude, listed the case as insufficient data. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
