Project Blue Book Case File
Los Angeles, CaliforniaNovember 1957
Summary
On November 8, 1957, around 11:31 p.m. local time, military observers near Los Angeles, California reported a round white object the size of a dime. The sighting lasted more than 25 minutes and the object was still in sight when the report was made. The object was very bright and appeared about two miles high.
The object followed the coast line, zigzagging vertically and horizontally. The witnesses were Marines, and their reliability was listed as unknown. The sky was clear.
The officer of the day made a visual check after getting the report. He said he saw nothing unusual except what looked like a very bright star in the same direction. The Air Force concluded the object was astronomical, a star, and said it probably appeared to move due to atmospheric conditions. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
